The other day I found a new book at the library, called “Married with Zombies” (The couple who slays together, stays together) by Jesse Petersen.
This book had quite a few things going for it, from the cover to the title, to the description on the back (brief, and charming). I even stood and read the first few pages while debating if I should actually add another book to my pile at home… checking the page count (257 pages, small enough to fit in your back pocket), it was decided that yes- I would be taking this one home too.
This book is the first of a series (Living with the Dead), and the second and third books were beside it. I debated on taking them too, but I didn’t want to be greedy. I’ll get them when I finish this one- I told myself.
The weather here is incredibly nice, so warm and sunny, so I found myself sitting beside the pool in the sun trying to catch a tan yesterday when a note fell out of the book and onto me.
It says “You’re awesome.”
With a heart.
I read it and said “Awwww… a note… in the book…” and I held it up to my boyfriend who was baking in the sun beside me.
“That looks like your handwriting.” He mumbled back.
(We may agree to disagree on that one)
“It’s not my handwriting… I didn’t write it… I never write in pencil anyway…someone put a nice note in the book for whoever reads it next…” I replied with a smile.
“Hmmm… okay… or your library boyfriend put it in there for you!” He laughed back.
Hah!
I tried (and more than likely failed) to convince him that people actually do leave nice little note in books for random strangers. They do! This note was proof.
Not only was the note proof, but I had been considering leaving notes of my own in books for people. Because it’s fun! And nice. However, I was more specifically contemplating leaving a note around page 110 of the last book I read there (the one that wasn’t good, that I wrote about in my last post) that said “Are you still reading this? I wish I could say it picks up from here… but it doesn’t”- but I decided not to. Because I really hate spoilers.
Speaking of spoilers, I made the mistake of checking out the reviews on the library website itself, on books I’ve checked out already- and WOW- SPOILERS EVERYWHERE without warning! The first line of one of the reviews totally ruined one entire book for me, but I’m still going to read it.
I think from here on out I will either look only at Amazon and their star reviews, or I will just form my own opinion on the book after I’ve read it.
Reviews just can’t be trusted.
Back to the note… I thought it was nice. It made me think whoever had this book before me was probably pretty cool and thoughtful, and so the book was probably pretty cool.
I’m on page 115, and its been a breezy read so far. Entertaining and humorous. I will definitely finish reading the series… when it gets back to the library, because I went back today and the rest of the books were gone.
😀
That sounds like such a sweet idea to leave notes in books! Maybe I should do that too…..
